The previous answer is indeed most likely the main answer to your question, but regarding other issues you can use 'make install prefix=/some/dir' to install in places other than /usr/local (or better yet,./configure -prefix=/some/dir).
To transfer a channel list, do the following: Broadcasting > Channel Settings > Transfer Channel List
Imports or exports the channel map. When the PIN input screen appears, enter the PIN.
You will need to connect a USB storage device to use this function on your TV.
The channel list is exported and imported as a .scm file (channel_list.scm)
The exported file will always be written to a fixed file name that matches your TV model. If this already exists, it will be overwritten without requiring confirmation.

Edit Exported Channel List
Firstly it is important to understand that the channel list .scm file is actually a compressed file containing which can be opened in programmes such as Winzip and IZArc.
Some of the files are black (viewable), while others are greyed out (unviewable). Note that the file TransponderDataBaste.dat can only be viewed, not edited.
It is possible to download a transponder list file in .xml format, edit the file as required then convert it to a TransponderDataBaste.dat file using a programme called Samsung Satellite Converter.

B series
On B Series TVs, you need to enter a key combination on your remote to access a hidden menu.
To enter the hidden menu do the following:
- Switch on the TV
- Press Volume down once
- Press and hold the Enter button for 10 seconds.
If this does not work, check the following:
- Verify that in the Sound Menu, that the option for Speaker Select is set to TV Speaker
- Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC) is disabled.

Creating a .scm file
The TV will create a directory on the stick, containing various data files, which cannot be edited directly. You need to select all the files and add them to a .zip archive (where the files are listed directly in the zip without any subdirectories) and change the file extension from .zip to .scm.
When finished modifying your channel list you need to unzip the .scm file again and put the files back in the original directory on your USB stick.
C, D, E, F, H series
Starting with the C-series you can use the Programme menu on your TV and select the option “Transfer channel list”. Type in your PIN when required.

Series J, K, M, MU and Q uses a different file format and creates .zip files on the USB stick instead of .scm.
